San Antonio is gearing up to celebrate the Fourth of July with a week-long inaugural event dubbed Stars and Stripes on Houston Street, a series of patriotic festivities running from July 1 through July 7, as announced by Centro San Antonio, the City of San Antonio, The Alamo, and Visit San Antonio. According to a report by KSAT, the event will feature River Walk parades, live music performances, outdoor movie screenings, and notably, a drone show at The Alamo scheduled for July 5.
Among the eclectic mix of events outlined, attendees can look forward to free paletas and popsicles on July 2, a rooftop party with DJs and refreshments on July 3, and a daytime celebration at The Alamo on the Fourth itself; the lineup includes a morning to evening program filled with access to historic sites and wrapping up with a themed parade, an artisan show, and a dinner event at the Majestic Theatre—priced at $100 a ticket, this dinner offers a night under the stars with a variety of festivities. As per a post by Allsides, parades are scheduled each evening from July 4 to July 7, with floats celebrating military branches.
With San Antonio's iconic River Walk serving as the backdrop, visitors can engage in a salute to the armed forces and cultural appreciation, from participating in parades and indulging in local artisan crafts to watching cultural performances at the Arneson River Theatre during the Fiesta Noche del Rio on July 5. Savvy spectators can wrap up their evenings with cinema classics like "The Sandlot" and "Armageddon" on July 2 and 6, respectively, with opportunities to purchase some good old fashioned American treats to accompany their movie-watching experience under the moonlight.
The festivities culminate with the drone show at the Alamo Plaza, starting at 9:30 p.m. on July 5 and forming an illuminated canopy over a day filled with live music and family activities; visitors will queue up for vibrant displays in the sky and on the streets, marking a technologically tinged twist on traditional fireworks displays—while also keeping the environmental impact lower than conventional pyrotechnics.
