The incident, which occurred on the morning of July 14, left a 60-year-old female bicyclist with severe injuries in the Rancho Penasquitos area.
The victim was cycling eastbound on the 13100 block of Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard when she was hit by a vehicle also traveling eastward. Eyewitnesses recalled the vehicle, a beige or dark tan mid-sized SUV, did not stop and continued in the direction of the I-15 freeway, leaving the injured cyclist behind, who was subsequently hospitalized with a fractured neck and multiple brain bleeds. Details regarding the vehicle and its driver remain scant, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
To incentivize witnesses, Crime Stoppers has put forth a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for this crime. The victim was immediately taken to a local hospital, where she is receiving medical care for her injuries in what marks a disturbing trend of traffic-related assaults on cyclists within city limits.
