The San Leandro Police Department swiftly tracked down a stolen work truck and its trailer yesterday, which contained tools worth approximately $30,000. According to the San Leandro Police Department, the incident began in the 500 block of Kenilworth Avenue, where the vehicle theft was reported, leading to the dispatch of officers around 10:30 a.m.
The preliminary investigation was led by the first responding officer while detectives from the Property Crimes/Crime Suppression Unit canvassed the area for the stolen vehicle. They soon located the work truck, minus its trailer, in Oakland. Using discreet surveillance tactics on the scene at Dowling Street and 88th Avenue, they observed two individuals arriving in a gray Lexus, later confirmed to have been stolen, and begin tampering with the stolen truck.
The San Leandro Police Department's report detailed how reinforcements consisting of patrol units and detectives were dispatched to the scene and successfully detained three suspects. The subsequent investigation quickly revealed that the gray Lexus was a 'cold-plated' vehicle reported stolen from Fremont two days prior. The trailer was found several blocks away with its cache of tools intact. Two of the detainees were arrested for auto theft and outstanding warrants.
