The City of Sandy Springs is prepping for a lively evening as it rolls out the red carpet for families and local law enforcement with their annual Back to School Bash – A National Night Out Event on August 6. The event, which intertwines National Night Out celebrations with a kickoff to the new school year is designed to strengthen community ties with the local police while offering a spirited time for families. According to the city’s announcement, participants can expect interactive activities and displays from a variety of agencies.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the scheduled date, attendees at City Green at City Springs will get the chance to rub elbows with first responders including the Sandy Springs Police, Fire Department, and Recreation and Parks Departments—let's not forget the K-9s. A mobile command center, SWAT trucks, police cars and fire trucks will be up for exploration, and those with a taste for heights can witness the DNR and Fulton County PD helicopters touch down on Mount Vernon Hwy, a treat for those among us who dream of a bird's-eye view without having to sprout wings themselves.
Additional fun includes a large inflatable obstacle course for the nimble ones, free shaved ice for the sweet tooth, balloon art for the creative spirits and carnival games for the young, or the young at heart. A DJ will be spicing up the bash with music, while the brave—or perhaps the curious—will also have the opportunity to gallivant among three lifelike dinosaurs courtesy of Prehistoric Nation, a hint of Jurassic splendor in the heart of Sandy Springs, no amber-encased mosquitoes necessary.
And it's not just local agencies pulling up; the event will be a veritable who's who of law enforcement and public safety, with representations from an alphabet soup of agencies including but not limited to the FBI, DEA, ATF, GBI, and the GSP—the MARTA police and Chatcomm included it's really a full spread, many of which are coming together to showcase their services and foster better trust and understanding among the populace they serve.
