The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a heat advisory that will remain in effect until Tuesday evening due to high temperatures that pose a significant risk of heat-related illnesses. According to the NWS Seattle forecast, the sunny skies over the upcoming days will see temperatures reaching the upper 80s and 90s.
Areas affected by this heat event include San Juan County, Western Whatcom County, the Southwest Interior, Western Skagit County among others. The advisory, which stresses the need for the public to remain hydrated and in air-conditioned spaces, indicates the weather could lead to moderate to major risk of heat-related illness. In line with the NWS guidance, locals are advised to stay out of the sun, especially, the most vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.
The heat advisory stresses the importance of taking precautions for those spending time outdoors, including rescheduling strenuous activities to cooler parts of the day. Occupational Safety and Health Administration suggests that outdoor workers should take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
For those in need of shelter or other services, the NWS suggests contacting 211 during business hours or visiting wa211.org anytime. They also highlight that anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. "Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1," the advisory warns.
