Early this morning, Seattle Police apprehended a man on suspicion of vehicular assault in the wake of a major traffic incident on the West Seattle Bridge. As per a briefing from the Seattle Police Department's Blotter, the collision occurred near the 1st Avenue South exit at around 3:26 a.m.
The situation unfolded when patrol officers responded to an emergency call involving a vehicle that had evidently lost control, striking multiple concrete barriers. The Seattle Fire Department was swiftly on the scene, providing necessary medical attention to the 33-year-old male driver and his 25-year-old female passenger, who sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries, according to the department's account. She was subsequently transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.
Detective work by the Traffic Collision Investigations Squad, who later processed the scene, purported that the driver was moving at a high speed heading eastbound before the vehicle's calamitous halt. Following the evaluation of evidence and preliminary tests, authorities ascertained that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of this incident. His injuries were described as minor.
The man, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, faces charges of Vehicular Assault. He was placed under arrest and, pending a medical evaluation, he is expected to be booked into King County Jail.
