The Blount County Sheriff's Office has reported a fatal shooting incident that took place on Thursday in Seymour, which resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old man. The suspect, Robert P. Berry from Maples Road in Seymour, is being charged with criminal homicide and is currently held at the Blount County Correctional Facility on a $1 million bond, WVLT informed. Authorities have identified the victim as 51-year-old Clinton A. Lovingood, who was Berry's roommate.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the call that initiated the response was placed by Berry himself, who informed Blount County Communications about the shooting. Deputies, upon arriving at the site, found Lovingood had succumbed to a gunshot wound. Berry, thereafter, surrendered to the authorities without incident. Medics attempted to quickly revive the victim; however, these efforts proved unsuccessful, and the man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene, WBIR reported.
Berry is scheduled to appear in the Blount County General Sessions Court on July 31, as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is still ongoing. Sheriff's investigators have not released further details but have stated that information will be made available as the case develops.
In addition to local efforts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has provided assistance in this case. Sheriff Lee Berrong issued an acknowledgment of the TBI's support, indicating a collaborative effort in handling investigations of such a critical and sensitive nature. As the local community grapples with the aftermath, the Sheriff's Office assures that efforts to thoroughly understand and address this violent occurrence are actively underway, WATE included in their account.
