Six individuals have been charged in connection with a series of large exhibition driving events in Maryland, known as 'takeovers' that involve dangerous automotive stunts on public roads, causing significant disturbances and safety risks, according to Fox Baltimore.
The Maryland Car Rally Task Force, recently formed in response to these illegal events, has conducted three major operations in Prince George’s County this month, targeting unlawful assemblies in locales such as Laurel, Greenbelt, Beltsville, and Upper Marlboro, meanwhile, individuals identified include Terrell Marshall, Alex Agustin, Kyle Allen, Jarard Walters, Malik Coleman, and London Flores, all facing charges for their participation.
As the newly minted state legislation implemented this June sets a clear boundary, with penalties reaching up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine for street racing activities, the task force is leveraging these laws to combat the reckless endangerment of communities, as "Participants block public roads for dangerous stunts, disrupt traffic, cause property damage and threaten the general public," as Maryland State Police indicated in a statement detailed by WMAR2 News.
