San Antonio Spurs fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their No. 4 draft pick in full action as Stephon Castle, the touted rookie guard, has been sidelined for the rest of the NBA 2K25 Summer League due to a sprained right wrist. KSAT reports that the injury occurred during the league opener against the Portland Trail Blazers, a game which saw Castle bank 22 points, four assists, and one steal before his untimely exit in the fourth quarter.
Castle's injury seems to be the product of a mid-air collision with Harrison Ingram as he attempted to contest a layup, following which he was clearly in distress. Although it is considered to be a minor injury, the Spurs organization is choosing to play it safe rather than risk their high-value player's health during the off-season, according to the same report by KSAT. Expected to log major minutes for the upcoming NBA season, either off the bench or in the starting lineup, the Spurs are undoubtedly prioritizing the long game with Castle.
Stephon Castle's talent surfaced quickly in the Summer League, with the former University of Connecticut standout putting up 12 points in his debut game and following it up with 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists against China. His on-court capability is no accident; he averaged 11.1 points last season and helped bring home a second consecutive national title for the Huskies. Castle's potential as a key figure in the Spurs' lineup has been reflected upon by NBA.com, marking him as one to watch once he fully recovers.
