
A quiet night on I-695 was abruptly upended by a three-vehicle crash in Baltimore County, with Maryland State Police now actively investigating the incident. The chain-reaction collision, which involved a Toyota Camry and a Honda Accord, occurred in a work zone on the outer loop between the Harrisburg Expressway and Falls Road shortly after midnight, as reported by Fox Baltimore.
The events unfolded when 27-year-old Jamal Dates, driving the Camry, failed to maintain control of his vehicle for reasons still to be determined, and crashed into the back of a dump truck that was stopped in the active work zone. The collision then caused the Camry to also hit a nearby Honda Accord. Dates and his passenger, 27-year-old Marqesha Young of Baltimore, according to WMAR2 News. Both were taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the Honda was transported to Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Following the crash, all traffic lanes on the stretch of I-695 where the incident occurred were closed down but have since been reopened. Maryland State Police's Crash Team took over to thoroughly investigate the situation, working to piece together how this accident came to pass and to prevent future similar occurrences in work zones which can often become sites of heightened danger for both workers and drivers.
No other individuals were reportedly injured in the traffic mishap. As the investigation proceeds, authorities have yet to conclusively establish why the Camry's driver was unable to avoid the rear-end collision with the dump truck.
