Yesterday morning, Cotati Police Department officers encountered an unexpected situation on Stony Point Road by West Sierra Avenue. An officer pulled over to inspect a suspiciously parked vehicle, and the in-car Automated License Plate Reader system flagged it as stolen. According to the Cotati Police Department, two individuals bolted from the vehicle upon the officer's approach. One suspect, a juvenile with an outstanding arrest warrant, was apprehended. The second subject remains at large despite a collaborative search effort.
A discovery was made during a search of the stolen vehicle and the arrested juvenile. Items found included alcohol, marijuana, a ski mask, and a knife. The juvenile is now facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and a minor in possession of alcohol. The Cotati PD was joined in the hunt for the second suspect by officers from Rohnert Park DPS, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, and Sonoma State University Police. A drone was also deployed but to no successful end. "A huge thank you to the agencies for your assistance with this incident", the Cotati Police Department expressed, solidifying the communal gravitas of this morning’s escapade.
Booked into the Sonoma County Juvenile Hall, the captured juvenile awaits legal proceedings for various charges. These include possession of a stolen vehicle under 496d(a) PC, stealing a vehicle as per 10851(a) CVC, minor in possession of alcohol under section 25662(a) B&P, and for the previously issued arrest warrant.
