Charlotte law enforcement has apprehended a woman linked to a fatal hit-and-run case that rattled the East Charlotte community earlier this year. On May 19, following a distress call, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department found 57-year-old Wade Terrill Burch lying on East W.T. Harris Boulevard, the consequence of a grievous collision that left him unconscious and ultimately claimed his life on the scene.
The initial inquiry by police pieced together a narrative of Burch attempting to cross the boulevard only to be struck down by a silver or gray sedan. Witnesses last observed the car speeding towards North Sharon Amity Road, the suspect evidently making a conscious decision to hastily depart rather than to properly assist or report the incident, as highlighted by WCNC.
The driver, now identified as 27-year-old Ana Maria Consuelos, faced a warranted arrest on July 3 for felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death. The fugitive was placed into custody last Monday, and Mecklenburg County jail records confirm her detention as of yesterday morning. Consuelos is expected to contend with the legal repercussions of her actions in a court appearance scheduled for the same afternoon, as reported by WSOCTV.
However, the incident's comprehensive picture paints a more complex sequence of events. Court records unearth a chilling detail. Burch was not only hit once but twice, both drivers choosing to flee the scene. Consuelos has been confirmed as the second driver, leaving dire questions about the first. The evening prior to the tragedy, Consuelos was said to have been at Bocas Sushi near AvidXchange Music Factory, where sources claimed that "several people tried to take Ana's keys away from her at the party," suggesting forewarning regarding her condition to drive a detail described in witness accounts as per QC News.
