Philadelphia has witnessed the unfolding of a tragic incident following the shooting and killing of a convenience store clerk in the city's Frankford section. According to 6abc, 37-year-old Kharee Simmons was arrested yesterday and has been charged with the murder of Kenneth Kennedy-McLeod, also aged 37, in what authorities believe was an escalated robbery.
As arresting officers collected evidence at the scene of the crime that materialized last Thursday morning, they found the cash register at Frankford Convenience Store agape with several bills scattered, possibly delineating the robbery gone awry. The victim, known affectionately as "Flock" to the locals, was found by police with the register open and was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital, as stated in a report by NBC Philadelphia.
The investigation further revealed that at least five shots had been fired inside the store located at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street. Police were alerted to the incident when a passerby informed a patrolling officer of the shooting.
Following Simmons' arrest in West Philadelphia, police charged him with multiple serious offenses, including murder, robbery, criminal conspiracy, and theft. "It appeared possible that "this may have been a robbery that escalated to a homicide," Philadelphia Police Inspector Scott Small said, as per NBC Philadelphia when describing the suspected circumstances surrounding Kennedy-McLeod's untimely demise.
