A Sacramento County library was swiftly evacuated after a bomb threat surfaced, causing concern among local authorities and the community. According to FOX40, around 4:45 p.m. yesterday, staff at the Arden-Dimick Library, located on Watt Avenue, contacted the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reporting a suspicious item and an accompanying threat. Officers took immediate action, detaining a suspect and consequently searching his residence under a warrant.
The initial scare at the library originated from a bag filled with various items which, upon closer inspection, didn't represent an immediate threat to public safety. However, the ensuing search at the suspect's home unearthed a more concerning find. "A search of the home revealed several explosive materials," the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported to FOX40. Confirming the gravity of situation, officials swiftly took measures to ensure no other threats were present at the scene.
Further reporting from CBS Sacramento identified the suspect involved in the initial library bomb threat as 54-year-old Robert Eric Matheson. Earlier in the day, the Arden-Dimick Library had faced an abrupt evacuation around 4:30 p.m. following reports of a bomb, with authorities arriving hastily to manage the threat. A bomb squad was called to the site and confirmed that the immediate danger had been mitigated.
Delving deeper into Matheson's La Rivera neighborhood residence, officials found a live device containing two pounds of explosive material, as told to CBS Sacramento. No injuries were reported, and authorities have not released further details regarding the incident or the motives behind Matheson's actions. The investigation continues as local law enforcement work to fully understand the breadth of the threats posed and ensure the safety of the community.
