A suspect's attempted aquatic escape came to a soggy end last week after a high-speed chase concluded with a plunge into the Colorado River. Thomas Raymond Morgan, 35, was arrested following a pursuit that involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Morgan now faces several charges, including unlawful flight from law enforcement, with an additional assortment of charges pending as the investigation continues.

According to the account provided by News 3 Las Vegas, Morgan was under investigation along with Ashley Fay Nail, 33, for illegal drug sales in the tri-state area. The drama unfolded when the pair fled from a traffic stop conducted by Mohave County Sheriff's deputies on Thursday, June 27. The pursuit escalated as Morgan and Nail evaded another stop by Bullhead City detectives, leading law enforcement on a chase that terminated at the banks of the river.

After allegedly clipping an another vehicle while fleeing through an intersection, their drive led them across the Laughlin Bridge and eventually on foot, where Morgan decided to jump into the river with a bag of drugs. 8 News Now reported that the police were able to recover from the water a vacuum-sealed package containing about 1,000 counterfeit fentanyl pills. Morgan subsequently surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody.

Bullhead City Police Department is still actively seeking Nail, who remains at large. The incident also brought out Bullhead City Police boat officers and a dive team to search the river for additional drugs or evidence. Morgan, apart from the recent episode, faces older drug and one assault charge. The departments involved in his apprehension included the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
