On May 26, a rideshare driver faced unforeseen danger when a passenger discharged a firearm at the vehicle upon reaching the drop-off point in Northeast DC. The Metropolitan Police Department reports that at around 8:06 a.m., after arriving at the 2000 block of Rhode Island Avenue, the suspect, exiting the vehicle, turned back to fire at the rideshare car multiple times. However, the driver managed to escape unharmed and alerted authorities from a secure location.
Nearly two and a half months later, the MPD, armed with an arrest warrant from the DC Superior Court, apprehended 28-year-old Sean Butler from Southeast, DC. On July 24, Butler was taken into custody by the MPD's Fugitive Unit, after his extradition from a local Virginia detention center where he had been held. The official MPD release imparts that Butler now faces charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
