If you're looking to serve your community and wear a badge of honor, mark your calendar for Saturday, July 27, as the Suwanee Police Department is opening its doors for a Police Officer Hiring Event. Taking place at City Hall from 10 am - 2 pm, both certified and uncertified officers are welcome to attend and stand a chance to be offered on-the-spot interviews. This initiative is a signal of the ongoing effort to bolster the ranks of those tasked with upholding the law and safety within the city limits.
The roles on offer are foundational to the Suwanee community, for police officers do more than just patrol the streets—they uphold the civic ideals enshrined in federal, state, and local regulations. According to a statement released by the Suwanee Police Department, they are seeking individuals "committed to serving and protecting the City of Suwanee and its residents as police officers." Those interested should bring with them not just their aspirations of community service but also a high school diploma or equivalent; however, an associate degree is preferred. Applicants must also hold a valid Georgia driver's license, be a U.S. citizen, and be at least 21 years of age to meet the cut.
It's an opportunity that brings with it tangible benefits. Starting salaries for candidates hover at $23.27 an hour, which rounds up to an annual salary of $52,031.72 based on current pay cycles, all for donning the uniform—which, by the way, comes at no additional cost as it's provided by the city. Additionally, new hires can look forward to a defined benefit plan from day one, a suite of medical benefits after a 30-day waiting period, and 11 paid holidays which adds up to an additional $3,071.64 per year (given 12-hour shifts).
For those dreaming of red and blues in their driveway, the department promises a take-home car after the successful completion of the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program—granted you live within 30 miles of the city's heartstrings. After a year of proving their mettle, officers are also eligible for tuition reimbursement, a nod to the department's commitment to continuous personal and professional growth. Should you be unable, or simply prefer to apply online, the application process is digital-friendly, too, with forms available on the city's website.
