Residents in Santa Rosa had a brief scare as the Santa Rosa Fire Department and Santa Rosa Police were called to the scene of a vegetation fire yesterday afternoon. According to their Facebook page, the fire occurred at the dead-end of Moraga Drive shortly before 2:30 p.m., charring a modest 50 by 50-foot swath of grass before the crews from the first arriving fire engine were able to swiftly subdue the blaze.
The conflagration did not rage for long or spread beyond the mowed seasonal grass where it began. The collective efforts of the fast-responding firefighters prevented what could have been a larger disaster in the heat of a relentless California summer. Both the Fire Department's fire investigators and the Santa Rosa Police are looking into the incident. As the public waits for a definitive cause, preliminary reports suggest the possibility of fireworks being the culprit. "All fireworks are illegal in Santa Rosa and unincorporated Sonoma County", the authorities reminded.
The Santa Rosa Police will release additional information regarding the Moraga Drive fire as they conclude their investigation.
