The City of Tempe, in its ongoing mission to improve road safety, has rolled out a new initiative as part of the Vision Zero Action Plan, targeting four specific city corridors for heightened traffic enforcement. From July through September, McClintock Drive, 48th Street, Baseline Road, and Warner Road will be under strict supervision in an attempt to curb the distressing trend of serious and fatal traffic accidents that have plagued these areas, according to the City of Tempe.

These corridors were not selected at random, either. A thorough analysis singled them out as the streets within Tempe with the most significant number of injury collisions, including those that caused serious injuries or fatalities. "Safety corridors are major supports on our roads,” Lieutenant Michael Hayes of the Tempe Police Department conveyed, “They guide drivers towards safer travel by highlighting danger zones and encouraging responsible driving," as stated by the City of Tempe. These efforts are part of a larger strategy focusing on the "three E's" of road safety: enforcement, engineering, and education.

Drivers navigating the new Safety Corridors can expect to see conspicuous yellow banners with "Safety Corridor – Strict Enforcement" emblazoned in black. The intention of this signage is clear – to remind drivers to adhere to the law and be mindful of the high-risk nature of these roads. The new banners are a visual component of the three-pronged road safety approach that's come to define Tempe's Vision Zero commitment.

More information on the Vision Zero Action Plan is available through the city's dedicated website portal, detailing both the philosophy and pragmatic steps Tempe is taking to defend its residents from preventable harm on the roads.
