A tragic incident unfolded at a Kingsland Lakehouse party on July 14th when a fight broke out, resulting in the death of 20-year-old David Justus. KVUE reports that the Llano County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding Justus' death, who succumbed to his injuries on July 23, a week after the incident. Sheriff Bill Blackburn described the event as "a party that got out of hand," with around 30 teens and young adults present.
Three individuals are now facing manslaughter charges in connection with Justus' death, including 19-year-olds Francisco Reyes and Ryan Moore and another man currently not in custody. The altercation appears to have escalated from a quarrel into violence, with beer cans being thrown before the physical confrontation. According to KVUE, "It looks like [Justus] got hit and knocked down and hit his head on a piece of concrete," Blackburn said.
The property, located on Mesquite Drive, is owned by an Austin resident who was under the impression that his son would have only about five friends over, as Sheriff Blackburn mentioned. The gathering, however, drew a larger crowd from several Central Texas towns. Moore was booked into Burnet County jail on July 29 while Reyes was booked into the Llano County jail on July 23, as noted in a release.
Further details regarding the legal representation for the accused Moore were not available, but KXAN is in the process of obtaining attorney information for Reyes. "From injuries he suffered from the fight," LCSO said in the release, is what led to Justus' death. The investigation into Justus' death by the Llano County Sheriff's Office is said to be ongoing.
