The Chick-fil-A at 18617 Limestone Commercial Drive in Pflugerville will go dark Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. for a renovation expected to keep it closed for 12 to 13 weeks, with a target reopening in mid-to-late December. The closure will strip the fast-growing suburban corridor of one of its busiest drive-thru anchors right as the surrounding shopping center adds a wave of new dining options nearby.
State filing records with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation put the estimated renovation budget at $2.2 million for the 4,786-square-foot building, according to a project listing tracked by the agency. As reported by Community Impact, the closure will run for roughly 12 to 13 weeks, with reopening expected in mid-to-late December, per marketing director Zach Smith. Dallas-based architecture firm Mayse & Associates, Inc. was selected as the design firm of record for the project, per the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.
The remodel will widen the drive-thru lanes, add a second exit lane, and install a new front counter, all aimed at making the restaurant more modern. Smith noted that the existing drive-thru currently narrows down significantly during peak rushes, which is why lane widening and the extra exit lane topped the list of renovation priorities, the same report notes. The restaurant plans to post construction updates and reopening information on its Facebook page as the work progresses.
A Second Major Rebuild in Under a Decade
This isn't the first time this particular Chick-fil-A has torn itself apart to keep up with demand. The location previously shut down for five weeks in April and May 2017 for a remodel that added its original dual drive-thru lane and expanded the kitchen, according to earlier Community Impact coverage. That 2017 project was managed by franchised operator Kirk Thompson, and now, less than a decade later, the site is undergoing an even larger structural overhaul.
The store sits inside Stone Hill Town Center, a 1-million-square-foot master-planned retail complex developed by NewQuest Properties at the intersection of SH 130 and Toll 45, according to CultureMap Austin. The center anchors Pflugerville's northern retail corridor and serves a trade area with a median customer age of 35, reflecting the dense concentration of young suburban families that CultureMap Austin says drives the location's high order volumes.
New Dining Options Arrive as Chick-fil-A Goes Quiet
Timing-wise, the closure lines up with Stone Hill Town Center entering its final development phase later this year. New fast-casual options are coming to Limestone Commercial Drive, including Cava, Piada Italian Street Food, and Hopdoddy Burger Bar, per CultureMap Austin's reporting on the shopping center's buildout. Those additions won't replace a drive-thru chicken order, but they do give displaced diners more sub-15-minute options nearby during the shutdown.
For customers who specifically want Chick-fil-A while the Limestone Commercial Drive site is closed, the nearest standalone drive-thru location is about five miles away at 110 Louis Henna Blvd in Round Rock, according to the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau. Another option sits further south at the Tech Ridge location on 12901 N IH-35 Service Road in North Austin, a commercial hub that serves commuters along the I-35 and Parmer Lane corridor.
Part of a Bigger Chick-fil-A Playbook
The Pflugerville project fits a pattern playing out at Chick-fil-A franchises nationwide, where multi-month closures to widen drive-thru lanes, add dual-lane ordering canopies, and enlarge kitchens have become common as drive-thru and mobile orders increasingly drive sales growth. Hoodline has tracked similar overhauls at locations in Selma, Texas, and Sicklerville, New Jersey, where comparable multimillion-dollar redesigns have taken restaurants offline for months at a time.
No exact reopening date has been set for the Pflugerville location, though Smith's mid-to-late December target gives area residents a rough window to plan around. In the meantime, the chain has said updates will land on its Facebook page as the 13-week build-out unfolds.
