A fatal collision claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman from Cadillac last Saturday morning in Wexford County. The Wexford County Sheriff's Office reports that the incident occurred on South 37 Road near Mistletoe Avenue in Haring Township. According to UpNorthLive, a car headed southbound lost control and collided head-on with a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction at around 8 a.m.
The violent encounter caused the truck to spin and roll over. The same reports suggest that the car burst into flames in the middle of the road. Attempts to preliminarily understand the crash dynamics are currently ongoing as the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The teenage driver of the car was tragically partially ejected from her vehicle and later succumbed to her injuries after being flown to a hospital.
The 39-year-old driver of the pickup truck, whom deputies say was from Owosso, encountered a similar fate of being partially ejected during the crash. 9and10News reported that he was taken in critical condition to Cadillac Munson Hospital before being transferred to Traverse City Munson. The site of the collision was closed for over five hours to facilitate investigation and roadway cleaning efforts.
Additional details from NewsnetMedia confirm that emergency assistance and investigative support were provided by several entities including the Michigan State Police, Selma Township Fire, Cherry Grove Rescue, Cherry Grove Township Fire, and MMR. Such a coalition of local forces is a stark reminder that in moments of tragedy, a community must often pull together to not just seek to offer aid but also to search for answers amidst calamity.
