A Trenton police officer and his K-9 partner were hospitalized following a significant crash involving an unlicensed driver on Thursday morning. As reported by FOX 29, Officer Perez was responding to a call for backup from a State Patrol officer dealing with a potential firearm threat when his vehicle was broadsided by the driver, who had run a stop sign at the intersection of 2nd and Bridge Streets.
The force of the collision was strong enough to send the police cruiser careening into a residential building. According to NBC Philadelphia, the crash occurred as the unlicensed driver "blew a stop sign and t-boned" the officer's vehicle. Subsequently, the officer sustained head lacerations and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. His K-9 companion suffered facial injuries but is expected to recover.
