Early this morning, Nashua Fire Rescue responded to a significant blaze that left two of their own injured and dozens of residents without homes. The fire, which erupted at 74 Bluestone Drive, quickly engulfed multiple units of a large apartment complex, according to a report from WHDH. Firefighters arrived to find the second floor, third floor, and attic ablaze, with smoke and flames visible on arrival.
Multifarious calls to dispatch around 2 a.m. indicated an urgent situation, with several engine and ladder companies deploying to the site. The firefighters swiftly initiated a search and rescue operation for occupants and managed to bring the fire under control within an hour. Despite their efforts, "the residence sustained extensive fire/smoke damage and will be uninhabitable," the fire department stated. While the cause remains under the Nashua Fire Marshal's Office investigation, the immediate consequence was the displacement of 65 residents from their homes, as reported by WHDH.
The Red Cross was promptly on scene to assist those affected by the disaster. "Our disaster action team in #NH is on the scene of a 36-unit apartment fire on Bluestone Dr. in Nashua," the organization posted on X, as mentioned in a post covered by Boston 25 News. They identified at least 29 units as damaged or destroyed in the inferno.
Regarding the injured firefighters, one was transported to a local hospital via ambulance, while a second received treatment at the scene. Thankfully, no civilian injuries were reported, and officials confirmed all residents were accounted for, including at least 10 cats who were rescued from a harrowing situation.
