Early morning violence erupted in Pittsburgh's Homewood South, where two men were wounded by gunfire. Authorities report that the shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. along the 700 block of Brushton Avenue. Pittsburgh Police Zone 5 officers discovered the victims upon their arrival at the scene, according to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department news release.
The victims, both adult males, suffered from gunshot wounds; one with a graze wound and the other with a more serious injury to his arm. The two were promptly transported by Pittsburgh EMS to local hospitals and are currently in stable condition. An associated crime scene was located several blocks away, on the 8000 block of Bennett Street, indicating the likelihood that the incident was not contained to a single location.
Detective units specializing in violent crimes were subsequently summoned to piece together the night's events. Their investigation now hinges on possible leads and evidence harvested by the Mobile Crime Unit, which responded to dissect and process the crime scene along Bennett Street. Details of the investigation have not been made public, as officials work to understand the motives and identify possible suspects involved in the shooting.
The Public Safety Department's reporting PIO, Emily Bourne, has confirmed that the investigation is active and ongoing.
