Southwest Houston witnessed intense police activity as two separate standoffs brought SWAT units into residential neighborhoods, ending with the arrests of two suspects facing serious charges. In one incident, a son's threat to his father with a pistol led to an hours-long standoff on Brookglage Circle. According to Click2Houston, the suspect, dwelling in the garage of the townhouse, was taken into custody around midnight after SWAT deployed tear gas and used a taser, a 40 mm round, and flashbangs. Officials apprehended the individual, who is now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In a separate but equally tense encounter, 60-year-old Joseph Catarineau found himself in a standoff with SWAT on Carew Street, after the Harris County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve him with five felony warrants. Accorded by ABC13, Catarineau, accused of assaulting a judge, a prosecutor, and a bailiff during a court hearing and facing additional fraud and finance charges, had barricaded himself in his residence only finally to surrender after three hours.

The standoffs unsettled neighbors, with one resident, Cynthia Becerra, recounting to ABC13, "We were just hiding, just trying to not be in the line of fire. It was crazy." In an effort to coax Catarineau out, SWAT team members employed various tactics including thermal imaging, revealing to him, "We can see you," as they tried to establish communication through a robot-delivered telephone.
