Investigations are underway after an early morning shooting in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood left two women injured. Authorities were first alerted when a female victim arrived by private means at a local hospital, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest around just before 4 a.m. Despite her critical condition, she provided critical details to the officers, indicating the incident took place at the intersection of 42nd and Butler Street, according to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter.
In a separate but related incident, another woman was later taken to a different hospital with a minor graze wound to her arm. A witness, who facilitated her hospital transport, affirmed that she, too, obtained her injuries at the aforementioned location. The Pittsburgh Police have not yet identified a suspect or suspects in the shooting, and the motive remains unclear.
The overnight events reportedly began with an argument inside a business near the 42nd and Butler Street corridor, but tensions escalated and the confrontation spilled outside, culminating in gunfire. According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter, the Violent Crime Unit has taken over the investigation. The police have started gathering initial witness statements in an effort to piece together the sequence of events.
