In an act of philanthropy aiming to connect furry friends with caring owners, Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) has found a corporate ally. Webb Engineering, a Winter Park-based civil engineering firm, has extended its hand, covering adoption fees for a week, to alleviate the animal shelter's summer swell of need. From July 1 through July 7, those looking to adopt can thank Webb Engineering for their fee-free process.

Diane Summers, Manager for OCAS, vividly described the seasonal uptick in homeless animals the shelter experiences, beginning with the boom of kitten births. Summers expressed the shelter's appreciation for support "during times like this," as reported by Orange County, including all forms of adoption and foster care. She specifically pointed out the aid from Webb Engineering, saying, “It’s staggering to witness how the number of homeless animals in our care spikes up each summer, starting with kitten season”.

Jackle Webb, President of Webb Engineering's prior initiative in June, with a shorter span of a weekend, managed notable success. According to Webb, as per Orange County, this resulted in "103 adoptions and a $4,590 donation to OCAS." With the momentum generated, both the firm and the shelter eagerly seek to replicate their previous success.

In the background of these hopeful developments, the ticking clock towards the Fourth of July presents its recurring concern for pet safety. Summers relayed that an unfortunate pattern emerges each year, fireworks leading to disoriented and displaced pets. The shelter, taking this opportunity, urges pet owners to employ safety tips from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), such as updating microchip information, leaving pets at home during fireworks displays, and ensuring pets are kept at a safe distance from celebrations that might lead to escape or harm.

Closed on the day of the Fourth, OCAS will resume its operations following the holiday.
