West Sacramento is ramping up preparations as the Athletics are set to call Sutter Health Park home starting in 2025. Early signs of the team's impending arrival are visible, with new signage going up around the park. Although the stay is temporary — the Athletics will play there for three, possibly four seasons before their planned move to Las Vegas — the anticipation is palpable among locals. "Oh yeah, I can already imagine there are going to be a lot of people showing up," resident Jesus Elias told KCRA 3.
The Athletics' first official schedule in West Sacramento has been released, revealing a lineup of games sure to excite fans across the region. They will open their season in Seattle, with the inaugural home game against the Chicago Cubs slated for March 31. As part of their first season at the new venue, the A's are also set to host star-studded teams like the New York Yankees on Mother’s Day weekend and the San Francisco Giants on Fourth of July weekend, which will surely generate large crowds and regional buzz. Full details on the upcoming season were provided by KRON4.
In light of these developments, West Sacramento officials are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition. Mayor Martha Guerrero and the city are ironing out logistics concerning traffic, security, and local business collaboration. "For the city, we do need to prepare on a number of things," Guerrero explained in an interview with KCRA 3. The police department is to closely examine traffic flow, while also identifying the need for added amenities like bike racks.
Moreover, Guerrero has initiated a series of roundtable meetings with business owners, in partnership with the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, to prepare for increased customer volume. "So that we can ensure that our businesses have all the support that the city can provide to prepare them to ramp up and scale up," she said on KCRA 3. Sutter Health Park has also released new renderings of premium spaces, signaling upgrades that attendees can look forward to. These enhancements form part of the overall strategy to support the local economy and enrich the fan experience, as discussions about necessary permits unfold.
