A stroke of astonishing luck has landed in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania where a single lottery ticket sold at the Giant Eagle on Penny Lane Drive in Jeannette is now worth a staggering more than $2.3 million. The fortuitous Match 6 Lotto ticket matched the winning numbers 14-30-41-44-46-48, securing a jackpot of $2,340,000 for the mystery winner, according to CBS News Pittsburgh. In a commendable gesture that's bound to thrill, the Pennsylvania Lottery will also award the Giant Eagle store with a $10,000 sales bonus.
Amid the buzz of the remarkable win, the Pennsylvania Lottery has reminded players to diligently check and double-check each ticket, every time. Their advice couldn't come at a better moment, considering that more than 61,800 other Match 6 Lotto tickets have also won prizes in the same drawing, as reported by TribLIVE. The winning doesn't stop there: last month, another ticket hit the $1 million mark in Freeport. Numerous hometown hopefuls have struck gold this year, with March seeing two Allegheny County residents also cash in on Match 6 Lotto tickets, each winning just over $1,000.
Pittsburgh and its outskirts seem to have become a veritable hotspot for lottery wins this year with this recent jackpot being the fifth million-dollar prize to be won in the area. Earlier, a pair of players won $1 million each in the New Year's Millionaire Raffle on January 6. These wins were swiftly followed by another nearly $2 million jackpot claimed at a Shop 'n Save on William Penn Highway in Murrysville, as detailed by CBS News Pittsburgh. The streak appeared to continue, with two lucky scratch-off ticket holders in Allegheny County pocketing $3 million and $5 million respectively.
Yet amid the celebrations, a poignant story emerged from Freeport where a lottery winner recounted a bittersweet victory. Karen Coffman, who won $1 million, lost her husband to a brain tumor merely two weeks after her win. "Throughout the years, I kept telling him, 'You watch, one of these days, I am going to hit the million," Coffman stated, as per CBS News Pittsburgh.
