Washington highway was shattered on the evening of July 24 when a driver on SR 518 became the target of a drive-by shooting near Des Moines Memorial Drive. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is calling for witnesses to come forward following the incident that didn't result in injuries.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the events unfolded around 7:15 p.m. when the victim reported to have been shot at while driving westbound on SR 518. The driver's quick actions to honk at and then overtake a blocking Chevy Tahoe seemingly triggered the Tahoe driver to quickly and recklessly discharge a firearm, striking the victim's vehicle.

The WSP's report detailed that after the horn was honked, the Tahoe's driver, described as a heavy-set white male, possibly in his mid-thirties, retaliated by firing a single round. The bullet made its entry and exit through the hood of the victim’s white Toyota Tundra. After the confrontation, the shooter sped away in the Tahoe, eluding capture due to the victim's inability to note the license plate.

State troopers responded to the 9-1-1 call, inspecting the victim's vehicle and taking a statement. The victim, who was unharmed, told troopers that after honking at the silver Tahoe, they attempted to simply go around, leading to the unexpected and violent response. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities working to gather more evidence from the scene and any potential witnesses who might have to more fully understand what occurred.
