
In the early hours of Wednesday, a police chase unfolded in North Las Vegas leading to officers shooting a 15-year-old boy suspected of a series of vehicle break-ins. According to FOX5 Vegas, the North Las Vegas Police Department responded to reports in the 5200 block of Styers Street around 12:30 a.m.
Subsequent calls concerning a vehicle break-in in the 5100 block of Rocky Bluff Street led officers to encounter the suspect, a described young Black male in dark clothing, around 3:04 a.m., the officers located the suspect in the 4300 block of Matinee Avenue and upon approaching, the suspect raised a firearm fired it at the officers, initiating a chase that featured intermittent exchanges of gunfire before the teenage suspect was struck in the arm and detained; investigators later determined the young suspect's involvement in "at least eight" vehicle burglaries prior to the encounter, as reported by FOX5 Vegas.
During the altercation, "When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, the suspect immediately raised a handgun and fired at the officers," North Las Vegas Police Department stated, as cited by KTNV. The teen was shot in the arm, received emergency first aid in the form of a tourniquet at the scene, and was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries where he is expected to be arrested upon recovery.
This incident marks the third officer-involved shooting for North Las Vegas Police Department in the current year, the investigation remains active and ongoing, details have emerged in piecemeal fashion the North Las Vegas Police Department has yet to conclude its probe into the matter, promising more information when available.
