A 6-year-old boy is reportedly in stable condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding a hoverboard in the parking lot of the Rodeway Inn in Coopersville. The incident occurred yesterday evening around 7 p.m., as confirmed by deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The child, who was learning to ride an electronic hoverboard under the supervision of his older brother, is said to have suddenly darted out from between parked cars, subsequently going under a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. The truck was being operated by a 44-year-old Saginaw man who was driving at a speed deemed suitable for the parking lot situation, reports WZZM 13.
According to authorities, the boy was hit by the back tire of the vehicle. After the accident, he was quickly transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said, as per WOODTV, the boy "was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition".
Details of the incident were further clarified by MidMichigan Now, noting the incident was reported at approximately 6:49 p.m., when the boy unexpectedly drove his hoverboard from between parked vehicles and into the path of the moving truck. The boy's swift trip to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital was necessitated by the injuries sustained, yet the prognosis thankfully did not point to life-threatening consequences.
