Chaos briefly erupted on the streets of Rohnert Park last night as officers from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety (RPDPS) arrested an armed man following a tip from an alert citizen. According to the City of Rohnert Park Police & Fire, the incident unfolded around 8:42 PM when someone reported seeing a man with a gun outside a local convenience store.

Arriving swiftly at the scene, RPDPS officers spotted an individual matching the description provided by the caller. As they attempted a stop, the suspect ran for it, leading officers on an approximately four-block chase on foot. During the pursuit, seemingly trying to ditch evidence, the suspect hurled a backpack containing a loaded Glock 17 9mm handgun and an extended magazine.

The pursuit ended with the suspect's capture and the recovery of the thrown backpack. The Rohnert Park authorities revealed that the Glock was unregistered. RPDPS thanked their Cotati PD counterparts for the backup during the hectic chase.
