Jazz enthusiasts, get ready to spice up your weekend calendars because Arturo Sandoval is bringing his trumpet back to Casselberry. Returning after a seven-year hiatus, Sandoval is headlining the FREE Latin Jazz & Art Festival on September 21 as announced by the City of Casselberry. The event, sponsored by the city and WUCF, promises a blend of music and visual arts at Lake Concord Park.
The festivities are kicking off at 5 p.m., inviting audiences to peruse through the Connexion Latin art exhibit until 8 p.m. Festivities include paintings, sculptures, mixed media masterpieces, and more, all to the tune of the Rumba Brothers strumming up their guitars at 6 p.m. This is an event placed in the calendar of every Latin jazz lover worth their salt. Having defected from Cuba in 1990 and later becoming an American citizen, Sandoval, awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013, remains an emblematic figure of triumph and cultural synthesis.
Attendees are not only promised Sandoval's Grammy-winning prowess but also a display of the local art scene. Right before the trumpet maestro's performance, the Latin art exhibit will sport creations from the area's most dynamic Latino artists. And while your eyes feast on artistic mastery, your ears will be serenaded by the Rumba Brothers, whose names, Luis Alfredo and Jose Velez, resonate with prowess in the realm of guitar duos, as they take the stage before Sandoval's much-anticipated performance.
