A Franklin High School student tragically passed away after suffering a medical emergency during a football practice this past Wednesday. Baltimore County Public Schools confirmed the incident, with principal Kieran J. O'Connell addressing the school community on the matter. "It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the death of a Franklin High School student," O'Connell stated in a message reported by WBAL-TV.
The Baltimore County Fire Department responded to the emergency call around 9:15 a.m. at the high school's football field, where they found the student in critical condition. Life-saving measures were already in progress, but despite their efforts, the student was transported to the hospital, where they later died. The name and details of the student have not been released, due to privacy and respect for the family.
O'Connell's message, shared with the community, emphasized the impact of the loss on the school. "We are devastated by this news," he expressed, as reported by WMAR-2 News. To offer support to those affected by the tragedy, counselors from the Baltimore County Public Schools Traumatic Loss Team will be available at Franklin High School, starting Thursday, August 15. O'Connell urged anyone in need of additional resources, or advice on discussing the incident with their children, to reach out to the school at (443) 809 - 1119.
While details about the incident are being closely guarded at this stage, Principal O'Connell promised to provide more information when appropriate. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the student’s family and loved ones," O'Connell said, in a statement echoed by WMAR-2 News.
