
In a recent security check at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School, a handgun was confiscated from a student, as reported by Baltimore City Public Schools. According to WBAL-TV, the incident which took place on Friday, was contained swiftly with the weapon being retrieved at the student entry point before it entered classroom settings.
Following the protocol, Mervo's faculty reacted promptly to the situation, involving the Baltimore City School Police to respond to the incident. In a letter addressing the Mervo community, which WMAR-2 News cited, Principal Jermaine Skinner emphasized, "At no time was the weapon in the learning environment." The focus on student and staff safety was reiterated, reflecting the school's commitment to maintaining a secure atmosphere conducive to education.
The administration has made it clear that the student found with the firearm will be facing disciplinary actions in concordance with the district's code of conduct and applicable laws. The specifics of these consequences, however, have not been disclosed.
