The Bel Air community joined together Sunday on the Ma and Pa Trail to mark the first anniversary of Rachel Morin's tragic death, reflecting on her life and legacy amidst the natural solace of the path she once walked regularly. The solemn day was festooned with a service that included prayers and songs in her memory, and photos of Rachel were displayed upon trees lining the trail, a somber reminder of the local woman whose life was cut short at the age of 37, as reported by WBAL-TV.
It was this same sense of community support that Patty Morin, Rachel's mother, credited with helping her endure the tragedy, as she stated in a sorrow-laden tone, "It's been a year already, and the only reason why we're here and we've made it through this far is because of our community," Patty Morin stated, as per WBAL-TV. This emotional gathering brought not just local residents but state and county officials, along with U.S. Senate candidate Larry Hogan who took the opportunity to express his support by stating, "I wanted to come and hug all of them and let them know they’re still in our prayers and I thought and I wanted to thank the community members where they’ve come together and get behind this family and think the law-enforcement team that did a great job and getting this suspect under you know, get them under arrest," according to a WMAR2 News.
As the community walked the trail, they paused at various stations showcasing Rachel's life through photos from childhood to adulthood, her mother sharing unique anecdotes alongside, "I remember the last time I saw Rachel was at her house, and I gave her a hug and kiss and told her that I love her," Patty Morin said in an interview, as detailed by WBAL-TV.
