Bloomington residents - take notice. The City Council has slated a public hearing for September 9 to discuss a resolution that could directly impact your pocketbook, specifically concerning charges assessed against properties for the abatement or removal of public nuisances. If you've got something to say about that, the meeting will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers in the Bloomington Civic Plaza. Don't worry if you can't make it in person provisions are in place to attend by electronic means, adhering to state law, as noted by the City of Bloomington.
The Council is looking to approve an assessment roll for charges levied under Chapter 12 of the City Code, which aligns with the authorization provided by Minnesota Statutes, and this rolls right up to property owners. These costs come into play when a property is deemed a public nuisance and requires action to correct. The City Clerk's office is where you can get your eyes on the assessment roll – it's public and made handy for your inspection. And if you want to avoid a tax bump, consider settling those fines and fees directly with the Bloomington Finance Department, as per the City of Bloomington.
Getting involved comes with options. The meeting's open to the public, in true democratic form; show up in person or dial in to contribute your two cents. Those not keen on speaking up in person can make their voice heard by leaving a voicemail or sending an email to the Council Secretary, following instructions detailed by the city's notice. Just remember to hit submit by 2 p.m. on the hearing date. And, for the always-connected, live streams on BTV and the City's YouTube channel stand ready to broadcast the proceedings.
