A body has been discovered in the Myakka River by investigators during a thorough search for a missing individual, as per the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC). The search operations commenced on August 7 when a Jon boat and a personal watercraft were involved in a collision just north of Border Rd. in Sarasota County, reported FOX 13 News.
The three individuals aboard the jon boat did not sustain any injuries from the crash, however, the fourth individual, the operator of the personal watercraft at the time of the accident, had gone missing. The subsequent search ultimately led to the grim finding on August 16, according to WTSP. The identity of the body that was retrieved from the river has yet to be confirmed, and the investigation is ongoing.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and the FWC worked in collaboration to persist in the search efforts where the unfortunate discovery was made. In a statement obtained by ABC7, the FWC mentioned, "While searching, the FWC responded to a report of a body located in the Myakka River and is currently investigating this discovery."
The community has rallied to support the family of the missing individual, identified as Darron Rose, through crowdfunding initiatives. A social media post highlighted the family's struggles as they grapple with their loss and the recent flooding from Debby, stating, "Meanwhile, the family is also battling the current flooding situation without Darron's help and wisdom. They are unable to work due to the emotional burdens they are trying to sort through." The post also mentioned the appreciation for community support, and assistance from local daycares, encapsulating the communal spirit in times of hardship, according to ABC7.
