
A grass fire that flared up at Rabbit Mountain Open Space on August 22 has been doused without incident, thanks to the prompt action of local firefighters. Boulder County officials said the blaze, which was reported at 3:26 PM near 14950 55th St., spanned roughly 2 acres upon discovery. The fire displayed minimal spread, with flames topping out at 2 to 3 feet.
Despite no structures being put directly at risk, the mountain's uncompromising geography demanded a determined effort to safely surround and ultimately contain the blaze. A full-on response to quickly to confront the flames was executed by several local fire agencies, ensuring the fire was subdued in short order, as per the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
Apart from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, responders included crews from Boulder County Parks and Open Space, the Lyons, Hygiene, Mountain View, and Lefthand Fire Protection Districts, as well as Boulder County Fire Management. All these agencies worked in unison, coordination that speaks to the efficacy and readiness of our local emergency services in times of potential disaster.
