Firefighters in Boyle Heights had their hands full with a grass fire that erupted on August 7, but their efficient work contained the blaze in under an hour. According to a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, the incident reported at 05:44 PM at 1601 S Perrino Place involved approximately 3/4 acre of grass burning in two separate sections about 100 feet apart. The fire department noted a slow rate of spread and confirmed that there were no structures threatened by the fire.
All train activity was brought to a halt as emergency services tackled the flames. The LAFD reported, "No injuries reported," and emphasized that safety measures involved stopping all trains due to the proximity of the operations. With no structures endangered, the firefighters' quick response prevented potential escalation, a statement on the LAFD website detailed the tactical fire suppression measures that were deployed.
The follow-up LAFD alert announced the containment of the fires at 06:40 PM, with 28 firefighters managing to fully contain the flames within 57 minutes. The mopping-up process for the remaining hot spots was estimated to last approximately 30 minutes, after which the train tracks were expected to be cleared and reopened. Fortunately, the firefighting team was able to wrap up the operation with no injuries and no structural damage.
