Last night, chaos erupted on High School Road as a vehicle collision not only resulted in a fiery crash but led to a rapidly spreading grass fire, greatly magnifying the danger for all involved, according to the Sebastopol Police Department's social media update. Before 8:30pm, the police were flooded with emergency calls signaling a serious accident where a vehicle had not only crashed into a field but also caught fire, with a possible person still inside. Responders found the driver, who had already been pulled from the blaze by quick-acting bystanders, suffering from moderate injuries.

As the vehicle, thought to be electric, became engulfed, firefighters from Sebastopol, Gold Ridge, Rancho Adobe, and Graton fire departments bravely tackled the fire that was feeding off the dry grass and growing at an alarming pace, the explosions from the vehicle posing an additional hazard, "The vehicle was believed to be electric, which caused a series of explosions as firefighters bravely fought the blaze", the Sebastopol PD reported on their Facebook page. Aid from the California Highway Patrol was pivotal as they took on the investigative duties surrounding the crash's circumstances.

The aftermath of the incident had High School Road shut down in both directions to facilitate the emergency services' strong presence that remained steadfast on the scene ensuring the fire was thoroughly extinguished and the area made safe again.
