The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is currently on the hunt for a 28-year-old man accused of assaulting his 18-year-old female relative, as reported by several local news outlets. The alleged incident took place early yesterday morning in Pennfield Township. According to WZZM13, during a routine foot patrol around 6:30 a.m. near N Helmer Road and Lafayette Avenue, deputies were approached by the visibly upset young woman who claimed she was attacked by a male relative who also brandished a firearm during the altercation.
The victim, who was taken to the Sheriff's Office Pennfield Substation for more questioning, indicated that the assault occurred in the 100 block of Milton Avenue. At the scene, deputies with support from the CCSO Special Response Team, K9 units, and hostage negotiators set up a perimeter around the home, where the suspected assailant was believed to be holed up with other family members still inside, as per WOODTV. However, a thorough search revealed that the suspect had eluded capture and was not within the premises.
All the individuals, including children present at the house during the operation, were safely relocated. The sheriff's office has not publicly identified the suspect but has confirmed the existence of a person of interest linked to this case. In efforts to apprehend the fugitive, who is still believed to be armed, law enforcement continues to scout locations frequently visited by the individual in question, as stated in a WWMT news article.
The sheriff's office urges anyone with information related to the suspect's whereabouts to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Potential witnesses or those privy to pertinent details are encouraged to reach Deputy Lieutenant Smith directly at (269) 781-0880 or to report anonymously to Silent Observer at (269) 964-3888, as per WOODTV.
