A 33-year-old man from Campbell County has been formally charged with second-degree murder following the discovery of 62-year-old Audie Green, who was found dead in a vehicle last month. As per the WATE report, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) special agents, alongside Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, have been actively investigating since Green was located with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle along Highway 25W on July 17.
Joshua Cox, the suspect now facing the murder charge, was allegedly a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. He was served the warrant this past Monday at Campbell County Jail, where he was already detained on unrelated charges. It appears TBI agents were effectively able to quickly determine Cox's connection to the crime. WVLT's coverage indicates that during the investigation, TBI determined Cox "was the person responsible for Green's death."
Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the homicide have not been disclosed to the public, and the investigation remains ongoing. The TBI has not released any further information concerning the motive or the events leading up to Green's death. This arrest brings a new development to a case that has notably been a topic of concern among the Campbell County community since last month.
Residents and local authorities are surely hoping to gain more clarity as the case progresses. In the meantime, Joshua Cox will remain in custody as he awaits further proceedings. WBIR reports that Cox was served warrants for second-degree murder, bringing to a close the preliminary search for the suspect in this unsettling incident. The legal process will continue to unfold, likely to slowly shed more light on the situation that led to Audie Green's untimely passing.
