A Carroll County deputy, identified as Investigator Taylor Bristow, is fighting for his life after being shot in the face while executing a search warrant earlier this morning. The deputy, who has served for approximately six years, was part of a team working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on Don Rich Drive in Carrollton, as reported by FOX 5. The incident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m., leading to the deputy being airlifted in "very critical condition" to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
While initial reports did not detail the condition of the suspected shooter, it was later confirmed that the individual is deceased. The circumstances surrounding the suspect's death remain unclear, as the GBI disclosed that no officers fired their weapons during the confrontation. They have yet formally to release the suspect's identity or cause of death. Amidst the unfolding scenario, the Carroll County Sheriff's Office took to Facebook to urge the community: "Please pray for the deputy, his family, and our department."
The GBI has taken over the case to investigate the shooting further. In a statement obtained by Channel 2's Ashli Lincoln, it was disclosed that the incident is not being considered an officer-involved shooting, yet no further explanation has been provided. The sheriff of Carroll County made it a priority to offer support to Bristow's family at the hospital amid the tragic event.
This violent episode marks the second time in just days that a Georgia law enforcement officer has been shot in the line of duty. Paulding County Deputy Brandon Cunningham was fatally shot on a recent Saturday night while responding to a domestic violence call. His services have been scheduled for the following Friday. Reflecting on these critical and sorrowful times, the law enforcement community braces against a tide of violence that has, within mere days, sought twice to take from it those who have sworn to serve and protect.
