The Chamblee Police Department has marked a significant milestone in its commitment to diversity and inclusion, swearing in Andrianne Byrd as its first female assistant police chief on July 25. Byrd, an experienced law enforcement officer with more than 28 years under her belt, previously served with the Miami-Dade Police Department. She brings to Chamblee an extensive background in public service and a track record of excellence.
"After 28 and a half years at the Miami-Dade Police Department and two years of retirement, it’s good to come back and serve the community," Byrd said, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta. Her role is set to include oversight of internal day-to-day operations and the structure of the department's staff.
Byrd's academic achievements complement her professional experience, holding a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Florida A&M University. She has also completed the Command Officers Development Course from the University of Louisville.
Chamblee Police Chief Michael Dieppa expressed his confidence in Byrd's capabilities. "I am so excited to have Chief Byrd come aboard as our Assistant Police Chief," Dieppa said, according to WSBTV. Byrd is to quickly begin utilizing her wealth of knowledge to provide assistance and guidance, drawing on her extensive experience from a diverse policing background to help make Chamblee a leading community in Georgia.
Byrd aims to serve as an exemplar of success for younger women aspiring to rise in what remains a male-dominated field. "It’s not about your sex, but it’s about your commitment to what you do. As long as you are committed and knowledgeable in your field, the opportunities are there," she said in an interview with FOX5 Atlanta. Her landmark achievement is celebrated alongside a laudable collection of accolades including an Exceptional Service Award, Employee Excellence Award, Officer of the Month, PBA Officer of the Year Nominee, and the Progressive Officer Club’s Women of the Year.
