A grave example of animal cruelty in Coachella has culminated in the arrest of a 33-year-old man, who now faces potential felony charges. According to KTLA, Oscar Jesus Romero Moreno is accused of attacking a small dog, a 6-month-old terrier mix named Oreo, resulting in a fractured leg after allegedly strangling and violently throwing the animal.
On July 24, a witness reported seeing Moreno pick the dog up by its neck and strangle it, before slamming it to the ground and then tossing it into a wrought-iron fence. Following the incident, Riverside County Animal Services intervened and took Oreo into their care, where an employee is reportedly providing "extra comfort" to the injured canine. This investigation uncovered not only a case of animal abuse but also a suspected instance of domestic violence on the property, CBS News Los Angeles reported.
The injured dog has since received medical attention, with x-rays revealing a fracture to Oreo's left hind leg, as detailed by CBS News Los Angeles. Riverside County Animal Services, in working with the Sheriff's Department, has taken a hard line against such acts of animal cruelty, demonstrating a commitment to seeking justice for the abuse suffered by both Oreo and potentially other victims on the scene.
