The heat is on in Dallas with temperatures slated to soar past the century mark in the coming days. According to the National Weather Service, Dallas residents can expect a scorching week ahead, with highs touching 101 degrees on Monday and potentially reaching up to 106 degrees by Wednesday. Nighttime will bring little relief, with lows hovering in the high 70s to low 80s.
In addition to the heat, an Air Quality Alert has been relayed by the National Weather Service Fort Worth TX, citing unfavorable atmospheric conditions conducive to elevated ozone levels for Dallas-Fort Worth on Sunday. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality advises to help reduce ozone pollution by reducing car travel and conserving energy.
While thunderstorms are on the radar for early Sunday morning and afternoon in Central Texas, Dallas does not face a severe weather threat, according to the hazardous weather outlook. However, spotter activation isn't anticipated for this period.
As the heat intensifies, so does the awareness about the risk of such high temperatures. The National Weather Service emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated, avoiding unnecessary outdoor activity during peak heat, and keeping a vigilant eye on the elderly, young children, and pets given these conditions. Precautions against ozone pollution may include carpooling or using public transportation, avoiding unnecessary idling of cars, and staying indoors as much as possible to minimize exposure to the poorer quality air.
