Residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth area face a sweltering forecast, accompanied by an Air Quality Alert for the coming days. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will soar to near the triple-digit mark, with Thursday’s high nearing 99 degrees accompanied by heat index values as high as 106.
In response to atmospheric conditions primed to quickly generate high levels of ground-level ozone pollution, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has specifically designated Thursday, August 22 as an Ozone Action Day. The public is advised to help prevent ozone pollution by sharing a ride, walking, riding a bicycle, taking your lunch to work, avoiding drive-through lanes, conserving energy, and keeping your vehicle properly tuned, according to the alert relayed by the National Weather Service.
The heat bears down unrelentingly, with the forecast extending this severe warmth through the weekend. Dallas can expect sunny and hot conditions with highs hovering stubbornly around 100. Along with the scorching heat, an advisory is in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening due to heat index values expected to fall between 105 and 109 degrees. The extreme heat and humidity significantly raise the risk for heat-related illnesses to occur, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities, cautions the National Weather Service.
